Washington Township, located in northwestern York County, is a predominantly rural and agricultural community. Unlike neighboring areas, it has retained its wide-open spaces, productive farmland, and traditional character due to its relative isolation from major development pressures. However, increasing suburban expansion from nearby cities poses challenges to preserving its scenic landscapes and farmland.
To manage growth responsibly, Washington Township has actively planned for the future. Since the 1970s, the Township has worked with the York County Planning Commission to develop and update its Comprehensive Plan, ensuring development enhances rather than detracts from the community’s quality of life.
Trash service will begin the first week of June 2026
The pickup days will be divided between Monday and Friday. Anthracite is dividing the township in half at Creek Rd, Doe Run Rd, and Wellsville Rd. Everything south of that line is a Monday pick up and everything north of that line is a Friday pick up. Trash and recycling will be picked up on the same day. Residents should put their containers out the night before their pickup day. Recycling flyers were sent with the first invoices and residents should receive them soon for the materials that are acceptable for recycling.
For bulk items you should call in to Anthracite to notify them of any being put out. That way they know if they have to schedule a separate truck to pick them up. You can reach them at 877-789-2468.
Join us for upcoming events, from community gatherings to special sales. We can't wait to see you there.
