The York County Solid Waste Authority aims to make the disposal of garbage easy while keeping our environment top of mind. We know people want to do the right thing, so we strive to provide long-term waste management programs and infrastructures that consider waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.
YCSWA is seeking feedback from York County residents through a survey available at www.TalkTrashToUs.com. This helps YCSWA understand community perceptions of trash management and future needs.
Municipalities often provide curbside yard waste pickup. Contact your municipality or waste hauler for services. If unavailable, you can mulch leaves, use clippings for garden beds, or compost them. Alternatively, bring your yard waste to the York County Resource Recovery Center (YCRRC). Check www.ycswa.com for accepted items.
Rechargeable batteries can cause fires in trash trucks and at facilities. Do not dispose of them in curbside trash or recycling. Visit www.call2recycle.org for proper disposal sites. Household alkaline batteries can be disposed of in regular trash.
Goodwill and Reworld now offer free electronics recycling at several locations in York County, including Goodwill stores in York, Hanover, and Shrewsbury. The York County Resource Recovery Center also accepts e-waste.
YCSWA offers free tours of the York County Resource Recovery Center, where trash is converted into electricity. They also offer tours of the Hopewell Area Recreation Complex, a former landfill turned recreational space. Additionally, YCSWA hosts fun, educational programs like Vermicomposting and Recycled Paper Revelations. Visit www.ycswa.com for more details.
